Visit of Hon’ble Member Sh Avinash
Rai Khanna to Shaheed Sukdev Singh Interstate
Bus Stand, Ludhiana.
On 25.07.2009 at about 4.30 P.M, I visited the Shaheed Sukhdev Singh Interstate Bus Stand, Ludhiana, along with S.D.M Ludhiana. My visit report is as follows:-
First Aid Boxes in the Buses :
I personally visited the Bus No.PB-65-G-0476 of PUNBUS, Bus No. PB-34-G-4645 Gobindgarh Roadways, Bus No.PB-03-S-6625 of Dabwali Transport. All the buses do not have First Aid Boxes. Although in Bus of PUNBUS there was a box, yet it was without any First Aid material. The Driver and Conductor could not reply as to why they are not keeping the first aid material in the Buses. The PUNBUS was not neat and clean.
Uniform of the
staff:
No Conductor, Driver was in uniform nor they were wearing any badges showing their conductor number, driver number and name. Even the In-charge of the Bus Stand was without any uniform. The Government conductor reported that they are not getting financial assistance to purchase the uniform.
Medical Facility at
Bus Stand :
There was no medical facility available in the Bus Stand nor there was any first aid box. No provision was there for giving first aid to the passengers or the visitors of the Bus Stand. No ambulance was placed in the Bus Stand for emergency purpose. Even the staff present there could not tell the telephone numbers of the officials to be contacted in emergency nor these telephone numbers displayed at the Bus Stand.
Parking :
Parking was in a very good condition. At different rates, the parking for cycles to four wheelers was provided in the Bus Stand. The Bus Stand was neat and clean. Toilets were also neat and clean.
Drinking Water:
Proper drinking water facility is there. All the drinking
water points were having facility of RO system.
Canteen
and Shops etc.
Majority of the canteen and shops were neat and clean. However, the shop keepers had not displayed rate lists in front of their shops regarding goods to be sold to the customers. The shop keepers who have affixed the lists, those were not legible.
Security
:
The Bus Stand is lacking proper security. It was reported that 23 employees are posted to look after the security of the Bus Stand, but at the time of my visit, I noticed only 2-3 security-men, but after completion of my report, 5/6 more security-men came near the spot of inspection. It was reported that daily 1800 Buses ply from this Bus Stand, but there is a lack of medical and security facility in the Bus Stand.
Rest Room for Bus Crews :
It was reported that there is no Rest Room in the Bus Stand for the crew of private buses. About 800 private buses ply daily from this Bus Stand, but there is no Rest Room for the employees of private buses.
Although Rest Room for the Govt. buses crew was shown to me at the time of inspection, but the same was locked. On inquiry from the Driver and Conductor, I was told that the Seat of the Bus is a Rest Room for them.
Complaint Boxes :
12 Complaint Boxes were affixed in the Bus Stand at different places.
Recommendations:
Government be asked to make it sure that all the Buses should have First Aid Boxes equipped with requisite medicines etc. in the boxes.
The Secretary, Transport be asked to ensure proper security at the Bus Stand.
Emergency Medical Facility be provided at the Bust Stand and a permanent ambulance be attached to the Bus Stand.
Shop Keepers be asked to display rate lists in front of their shops which should be legible in all manners.
The Driver, Conductor be asked to wear the uniform along with their name badges so that they could be identified.
Rest Room for the Conductor and Driver of the buses be provided to them so that they can use the same.
The Government Buses should be made properly neat and clean.
